EXPECT OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON I-95 NEAR FREDERICKSBURG

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Overnight travelers should anticipate delays this week on Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area with double lane closures as paving continues on the interstate.

Starting tonight, Aug. 5, I-95 northbound will be reduced to a single lane near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County. Also, the I-95 on- and off-ramps to Centreport Parkway will be closed.

REMINDER: ROUTE 630 (COURTHOUSE ROAD) DETOUR STARTS TONIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Motorists are reminded that through traffic on a section of Route 630 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County will be detoured this weekend to allow crews to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive, and activate a new traffic signal at the intersection.

Starting at 9 p.m. tonight through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, Courthouse Road will close to all through traffic between Mine Road and Austin Ridge Drive.

This will allow crews to finish construction activities to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive west of the current intersection. A traffic signal at the new intersection of Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive will be activated before the morning rush hour on Monday, Aug. 5.

Signs will guide motorists along the posted detour route:

  • Austin Ridge Drive
  • Shields Road
  • Mine Road

NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL ACTIVATED AT RAMOTH CHURCH ROAD AND WINDING CREEK ROAD

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A new traffic signal has been activated in full color operation at the realigned Winding Creek Road and Ramoth Church Road intersection with Courthouse Road in Stafford County. 

Message boards and signs are positioned at the intersection to alert motorists to the new traffic signal. Motorists are asked to use caution and stay alert as they navigate the area, which remains an active work zone. 

Coming Up: Weekend Detour Aug. 2-5 on Courthouse Road 

Motorists are reminded that a section of Courthouse Road near Interstate 95 will be closed this weekend to allow crews to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive and activate a new traffic signal. 

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, Courthouse Road will close to all traffic between Mine Road and Austin Ridge Drive.

MAJOR CONSTRUCTION WORK BEGINS NEXT WEEK ON I-95 EXPRESS LANES FREDERICKSBURG EXTENSION

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Starting Monday, July 22, crews will begin major construction work on the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension – also known as Fred Ex.

Motorists may encounter crews and construction equipment in the median and along the shoulders, as well as trucks entering or exiting the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone, between Exit 148 (Russell Road) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County.

I-95 SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC SHIFT ON THURSDAY, JULY 11

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Interstate 95 southbound in Stafford County will be shifted slightly near the Truslow Road overpass this week as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. 

All three lanes of I-95 southbound will shift approximately 6 feet to the left, toward the interstate median, to provide more space along the right shoulder for crews to work behind barriers.

VIRGINIA AND TRANSURBAN BREAK GROUND ON 'FRED EX' 10 MILE EXTENSION OF INTERSTATE 95 EXPRESS LANES

FREDERICKSBURG—Governor Ralph Northam today announced the start of construction on a 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in a vital economic region of Virginia. The Governor was joined by Congressman Rob Wittman, Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner Stephen Brich, and Transurban, Virginia’s partner and operator of the Interstate 95 (I-95) and Interstate 495 (I-495) Express Lanes. The Fredericksburg Extension project, known as “Fred Ex,” will provide new options for faster and more reliable travel along one of the nation’s most congested corridors by extending the dynamically-tolled express lanes from Route 610 to Route 17 near Fredericksburg.

WYCHE ROAD OPENS ON NEW ALIGNMENT ON THURSDAY, MAY 16 IN STAFFORD COUNTY

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Wyche Road traffic in Stafford County will be shifted onto a new alignment next week as construction crews continue to rebuild the Interstate 95 Exit 140 interchange and widen Courthouse Road to four lanes.

View an online map of the Wyche Road alignment that will open at a new intersection with Courthouse Road on Thursday, May 16, weather permitting. The shift is anticipated to occur after the morning peak travel period.

VIRGINIA AND TRANSURBAN SIGN AGREEMENTS TO INVEST MORE THAN $1 BILLION IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION

RICHMOND — Governor Ralph Northam today announced that the Commonwealth of Virginia has signed agreements with private partner Transurban to deliver critical transportation solutions along Interstate 495 and Interstate 95. Months of close collaboration and negotiation between the Commonwealth and Transurban have resulted in a deal for four transportation infrastructure projects that will create significant value for citizens and businesses throughout Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg.

“My administration is committed to creating opportunity for Virginia families and businesses in every corner of the Commonwealth, and that requires having a safe, reliable transportation network,” said Governor Northam. “I am pleased to announce these four projects that will bring significant improvements to I-495 and I-95, easing congestion, enhancing safety, and driving economic growth.”

TRAFFIC SHIFT TO NEW PAVEMENT ON COURTHOUSE ROAD IN STAFFORD COUNTY NEXT WEEK

FREDERICKSBURG – Starting early Tuesday, Nov. 27, all Courthouse Road traffic will shift to new pavement between Colonial Forge High School and Snowbird Lane in Stafford County.

The traffic shift comes as construction advances to widen Courthouse Road from two lanes to four lanes and rebuild the Interstate 95 Exit 140 interchange to a diverging diamond.

Message boards are posted to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.

On Monday, Nov. 26, crews will begin work to shift Courthouse Road traffic to the new pavement.  A flagging crew will direct alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road from Colonial Forge High School to Snowbird Lane starting at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday.  The crew will return at 7 p.m. to direct drivers in the work zone until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27. 

Drivers are advised to use caution in the work zone as they navigate the new section of roadway.

I-95 BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY TO START NEAR RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER, QUARRY ROAD IN FREDERICKSBURG

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. ⸺ Construction to build a new bridge over the Rappahannock River to carry three new southbound lanes of Interstate 95 is getting underway in November as part of the $132 million I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Residents should be alert for increased construction traffic and activity on Wicklow Drive and Quarry Road in the City of Fredericksburg.

Signs will be posted near the entrance to Quarry Road from Wicklow Drive and Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard to notify pedestrians and bicyclists that they are entering a work zone.

Access to walking, hiking and bicyclist paths near the Rappahannock River will be maintained throughout this four-year project, but users should be alert for construction crews and equipment, and periods of one-way, alternating traffic on Quarry Road.

CONSTRUCTION RAMPING UP ON I-95 AT EXIT 133 (ROUTE 17) IN STAFFORD COUNTY

FREDERICKSBURG ˗˗ Construction for the Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project is ramping up with work advancing at the Exit 133/Route 17 interchange in Stafford County. 

Drivers should anticipate lane closures and possible delays on Route 17 northbound and southbound starting next week, Tuesday, Nov. 13as crews begin construction activities for the new I-95 overpasses of Route 17. 

Route 17 northbound and southbound may be reduced to a single lane overnight for the next several weeks at the overpasses to provide space for crews and equipment. Delays may occur due to the reduction in travel lanes.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS TO IMPROVE 95 AT FREDERICKSBURG WITH I-95 SOUTHBOUND RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER CROSSING

FREDERICKSBURG – Construction to unlock gridlock on Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg has begun, and crews are working to add three new southbound lanes over six miles on one of the most congested sections of I-95 near the Rappahannock River.

When the project opens to traffic in 2022, southbound drivers will have a total of six travel lanes to use between the Route 17 interchange in Stafford County and the Route 3 interchange in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County.
